Downtime after CoolPeel® is minimal—“social downtime” of two to four days is recommended. After CoolPeel®, patients will be red, similar to the look and feel of a sunburn. Your skin may even be a little scaly, and that’s normal as well.
It’s important in the first couple days after treatment that you keep your skin hydrated. Our providers can advise you on what moisturizers or skin care products are safe to use right after treatment.
Results can last for several years if proper skin care is performed, including regular use of SPF!
Laser energy in short pulses stimulate new collagen growth on the skin’s surface. While a typical CO2 laser treatment results in heat damage to surrounding tissues, CoolPeel® does not deliver thermal damage.
A full-face CoolPeel® treatment can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes, however, more time would be needed if treatment is also being administered to the neck, chest, and hands. No anesthesia is needed. For further comfort, numbing cream may be used.
Leading up to a CO2 laser treatment, it’s important to refrain from using retinols and glycolic and salicylic acids as well as avoid sun exposure for at least one week prior to treatment.
